I\u2019ll make every effort to update with any changes and verify when PowerApps is released.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The following is a discrepancy happening in the Preview mode that will likely be resolved in the release version. Until then, something to mention so others don\u2019t get frustrated when working with PowerApps during the Preview stage.<\/p>\n<p>When looking at the columns in my SharePoint list, I have the following:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Wes\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/WindowsLiveWriter1286139640\/supfiles13441FE6\/image34.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-709\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Figure1-300x240.png\" alt=\"Figure1\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Figure1-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Figure1.png 609w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Figure 1<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, I create a PowerApp based on the same list. BrowseScreen gives me four controls\/fields on my card by default.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Wes\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/WindowsLiveWriter1286139640\/supfiles13441FE6\/image8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-706\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-1-300x224.png\" alt=\"image.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-1-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-1-620x463.png 620w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-1.png 675w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Figure 2<\/span><\/p>\n<p>When using the dropdown values for the controls, I get the following:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Wes\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/WindowsLiveWriter1286139640\/supfiles13441FE6\/image11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-714\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-2-253x300.png\" alt=\"image.png\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-2-253x300.png 253w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-2.png 321w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Figure 3<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Which is *not* the same as my list of fields.\u00a0It looks like I\u2019m missing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ReqType (choice)<\/li>\n<li>AssignedTo (Person)<\/li>\n<li>CreatedBy (Person)<\/li>\n<li>ModifiedBy (Person)<\/li>\n<li>Status (choice)<\/li>\n<li>Priority (choice)<\/li>\n<li>Dept (Lookup)<\/li>\n<li>Dept:ID (Lookup \u2013 additional field)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The missing fields are Choice, People, and Lookup fields. All of these fields are a bit more complicated behind the scenes. Thankfully we can still get to the data but we need to be a little more deliberate about it.<\/p>\n<p>Note: ID comes as a bonus and IS available for selection.\u00a0While ID is not shown in SharePoint\u2019s List Settings we know we can get access to it in views. It\u2019s a column that\u2019s just behind the scenes sometimes in SharePoint.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in Figure 2 above, PowerApps provides an easy way to select a control on the card and select which field it should represent. You can also use the Text property directly \u2013 either in the top property control or on the Advanced panel (select the View tab, then click on \u2018Advanced\u2019).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Wes\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/WindowsLiveWriter1286139640\/supfiles13441FE6\/image15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-718\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-3-300x19.png\" alt=\"image.png\" width=\"521\" height=\"33\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-3-300x19.png 300w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-3-768x49.png 768w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-3-620x39.png 620w, https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/image-3.png 911w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Figure 4<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the formula box for the property, delete the field name (\u2018Comments\u2019). With the cursor after the period, the dropdown suggestion should now show all available fields \u2013 including our missing fields.<\/p>\n<p>Notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SharePoint\u2019s CreatedBy is shown as \u2018Author\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>SharePoint\u2019s ModifiedBy is shown as \u2018Editor\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u2018ThisItem\u2019 is not needed in this example. You can type the field name directly. However, if you want to see a list of the fields available, you can use \u2018ThisItem.\u2019 in the formula.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Select \u2018Editor\u2019. After \u2018ThisItem.Editor\u2019 add another period to see additional options \u2013 and select <em>DisplayName<\/em>. ThisItem.Dept:ID.Value<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Note:<br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Currently seeing what should be Dept:ID showing up as:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Dept_x003a_ID \u2013 I\u2019m guessing this will be updated before release as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>People<\/strong> fields have a list of values available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Department<\/li>\n<li>DisplayName<\/li>\n<li>Email<\/li>\n<li>JobTitle<\/li>\n<li>Picture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All in all, this issue doesn\u2019t stop us from building what we\u2019re trying to build, but it is an inconsistency in the UX and can be confusing or frustrating to folks during the learning curve.<\/p>\n<p>Please &#8211; Let me know if you see something different so we can keep this info current.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>*Disclaimer* \u2013 This post based on Preview version of PowerApps.
