{"id":296,"date":"2011-06-17T09:49:38","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T15:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/2011\/sharepoint-saturday-chicago-sharepoint-101\/"},"modified":"2011-06-17T09:49:38","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T15:49:38","slug":"sharepoint-saturday-chicago-sharepoint-101","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.idubbs.com\/blog\/2011\/sharepoint-saturday-chicago-sharepoint-101\/","title":{"rendered":"SharePoint Saturday Chicago \u2013 SharePoint 101"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday June 11th was the suburban edition of SharePoint Saturday Chicago.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwkid.com\/SitePages\/blog.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Raymond<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/iwkid\" target=\"_blank\">@iwkid<\/a>), Phil (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/pjirsa\" target=\"_blank\">@pjirsa<\/a>) and I made the trip with a handful of others from Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers did a wonderful job and the weather turned out great as well.\u00a0 Lots of great sessions and speakers.\u00a0 They also tried some new things, which was cool.\u00a0 We had a 101 track and a deep dive room in addition to some of the more traditional IT Pro and Developer tracks.\u00a0 Also in the mix, and well timed \u2013 was an Office 365 track.<\/p>\n<p>I was lucky enough to kick off the 101 track.\u00a0 We started the day aimed at folks who don\u2019t know much, if anything, about SharePoint.\u00a0 Hopefully this was useful and enough information to get folks started for the rest of the day.\u00a0 The track was as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is SharePoint? (Me)<\/li>\n<li>Future Proofing your SharePoint Success \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rharbridge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Harbridge<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/rharbridge\" target=\"_blank\">@rharbridge<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Effective Requirements Gathering Workshops \u2013 How to organize and run them \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/spinsiders.com\/ruveng\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ruven Gotz<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/ruveng\" target=\"_blank\">@ruveng<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Ready, Set, ROI: A survey in SharePoint use cases and ROI Calculations \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/sarahlhaase.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Haase<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/sarahhaase\" target=\"_blank\">@sarahhaase<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before getting started, my session was also dubbed \u201cthe SharePoint session you should send your mom to\u2026\u201d\u00a0 and someone did.\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" style=\"border-style: none;\" src=\"http:\/\/209.95.55.158\/~idubbsco\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/wlEmoticon-smile.png\" alt=\"Smile\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The track seemed to go over well.\u00a0 We had 20-30 people in each session throughout the day.\u00a0 The intro topic is a little tough for SharePoint Saturday\u2019s because generally the only people that know about SPS events are those that are already in tune with the SharePoint community.\u00a0 I think there is a LOT more potential for this track\/area, but it might require different or additional marketing to get the audience that it\u2019s really targeted at.\u00a0 Hopefully we can repeat and expand on the 101 track in other events as well.<\/p>\n<p>My slides are available on Slideshare <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/idubbs\/sps-chicago-2011-share-point-101\" target=\"_blank\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday June 11th was the suburban edition of SharePoint Saturday Chicago.\u00a0 Raymond (@iwkid), Phil (@pjirsa) and I made the trip with a handful of others from Minnesota.
