SharePoint User Group updates

Uff-da.  Its been far too long since my last post.

Last month’s MNSPUG meeting on SharePoint Branding finally overflowed the room.  We’ve been close before, but this was definitely over the edge.  This coming month (Ocbober) Raymond is going to be touring the IASPUG, NESPUG and MNSPUG groups doing a presentation on Composite Applications in SharePoint – highlighting SharePoint Designer’s capabilities.  It’s sure to be a great topic, so make sure you get there early.

Also be sure to check out some of the other presentations in the Mpls area that we’ve posted on the www.sharepointmn.com site.  There are two coming up this week so check in soon!

May MNSPUG Meeting – Site Templates and Definitions

We’ve got an exciting topic for this month’s MNSPUG meeting that should appeal to a wide audience.  Site Templates and Site Definitions:  What are they, what is available, how do you create new ones, etc…  Lots to cover with specifics for end users, admins and developers.  Overview of the Fab 40.

And oh yea, this is our 3rd Anniversary.  Three years as part of the local SharePoint community and likely one of the largest SharePoint user groups in the country.  Way to go guys!

Make sure to get there early, though.  The Click To Attend site was shut down at 180 attendees.  Wow!!!  We look forward to seeing you there!

April MNSPUG Recap – SharePoint 2007 Migration

Even with the crummy weather (April snowstorm) we managed about 110 people at last week’s meeting.  A good turnout for a timely subject – migrating from SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2007.  Thanks to Tim Smith for presenting this topic to the group.

The presentation can be found HERE.  As always, please let us know if you have any further questions.

The new MNSPUG (Minnesota SharePoint User Group) site is finally up and running.  We’re working to get all the content from the previous site up – including featured links from previous meetings.  We’ll also have additional functionality in the coming months that should be fun and exciting.  Keep checking back!

April MNSPUG – Migration from SharePoint 2003 to 2007

This month we’ll be having Tim Smith from Avanade presenting “Assessing your SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2007 Migration Options”.  Topics will include:

•  Overview of the migration options
•  Evaluating your current environment
•  Understanding the impact to users
•  Selecting the right migration approach
•  Change management approach

Be sure to join us Wednesday April 11th from 8:30 – 11:00 am at the Bloomington, MN Microsoft office.

March MNSPUG Recap – WSS 3.0 Deep Dive

We had another great turnout (~ 130 attendees) at this month’s Minnesota SharePoint User Group!  With so many features to cover in the 2007 versions of Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), we find ourselves doing a lot of high-level presentations.  We tend to rush through as many features as we can fit into the time and say “you can do some really cool stuff with this feature but we don’t have time to show you today…”.  This month’s presentation was an opportunity to get into more depth on some of these items.  I hope you found the presentation helpful.

As usual, we had a lot of information to cover and we got some great questions and lots of input from the group. For those of you that missed it we do have the presentation available at http://www.sharepointmn.com

The presentation (and New Horizons flyer) can be found HERE.
The featured links from this month can be found HERE

Be sure to check back to the site for more information on next month’s topic.  We are still finalizing this, but hope to have a speaker on “Assessing your SharePoint 2003 to 2007 Migration Options”.  I will update this post with event registration information when it becomes available.

NOTE: We’re working with MS to get the hardware in the presentation room fixed – there actually IS a monitor up at the podium that should display what’s on the screens – but it’s not currently working.  🙂  My apologies for any inconvenience.

February MNSPUG Recap

We had another record turnout (over 130 attendees) at this month’s Minnesota SharePoint User Group!  As a follow-up to the recent Microsoft Office/Vista/Exchange Launch event, Raymond and I presented on the Installation, Configuration and Administration of SharePoint 2007 – hoping to help guide our users through the basic steps needed to get an environment up and running.

We had a ton of information to cover and we got some great questions and lots of input from the group. For those of you that missed it we do have the presentation available at http://www.sharepointmn.com

The presentation can be found HERE.

Minnesota SharePoint User Group – February

Yep, we’re having a user group meeting on Valentine’s Day.  It is in the morning though, so don’t worry about it impacting any after work festivities.

This month we’ll be covering the Installation, Configuration and Administration of SharePoint 2007.  The response so far has been overwhelming from invitation responses and new folks that learned about us at the recent MS Launch event.  So, make sure you get there early and get a seat!  (and donut).

MNSPUG Reminder

The Minnesota SharePoint User Group (MNSPUG) will be meeting this week on Wednesday Sept. 13th at 8:30AM at the Bloomington, MN Microsoft office.  We will be presenting on the Content Management features of MOSS 2007 as well as some of the content management features of SharePoint Designer.

Stop by and save $1.50!  [:)]

Visit the MNSPUG site for more details and presentation materials.  Resources will be available online after the presentation.

MNSPUG 2 yr Anniversary

As Raymond mentioned, the Minnesota SharePoint User Group (MNSPUG) celebrated its 2 year anniversary last week.  It’s been a pretty good run so far as we usually have anywhere from 60-100 people per meeting (thanks to all the donuts and other goodies).  Keep an eye out for changes in the next few months!

Before breaking to socialize/network and eat cake, we did a high-level overview of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 by using the ‘wheel’ Microsoft has been using to pitch it.  We’re planning on doing deeper dives of these subjects over the next year as we ramp up for and welcome the release of the next version of SharePoint and Office.

You can check out this and other presentations on the MNSPUG site.  Come and join us next month!  Check the site for topics.
